Pro tip: that $900 weekend sales bootcamp in Dallas actually paid off, and I still can't believe it
I signed up for a two day sales bootcamp in Dallas back in March mostly because my manager kept pushing it and I had $900 of leftover training money that was about to expire. I figured it would be one of those rah rah seminars where a guy in a suit yells at you about grinding harder and then tries to sell you a $5,000 coaching program by lunch. The whole drive up I was already planning my post about how I got scammed. Then the instructor spent the entire Saturday on one thing: how to ask questions and actually shut up after. No scripts, no closing tricks, just drilling us on listening until it felt awkward. I tried it on a call with a client in Plano two weeks later and the guy talked himself into a bigger package without me pitching anything, which had never happened to me in 4 years of sales. I closed 3 of my next 5 deals using basically nothing but questions, and my close rate went from around 18 percent to almost 40 percent that quarter. So now I'm the annoying person telling everyone on my team to go, which I fully accept makes me the worst. Has anyone taken a short workshop like this that stuck, or did most of yours turn out to be overpriced pep talks?
