Shoutout to anyone negotiating a remote work clause
I thought adding 'fully remote' to my offer letter was straightforward, but clarifying the exact terms with HR took three weeks of back-and-forth emails. The sticking point was the definition of 'occasional in-office requirements' and whether that included cross-country travel. Has anyone else had to get really specific with their remote work agreement?

Yeah, the "occasional in-office" thing is such a trap. What did they finally agree was "occasional"? Like, is it four times a year or once a month? And who pays for that cross-country flight and hotel if they call you in? I'd be worried they'd say it's "required" but then not cover the cost, leaving you stuck.

Exactly! I got burned by that once. They said "a few times a quarter" which turned into a mandatory week every month, and guess what? They called it a "team building expense" and wouldn't cover my flights. I had to fight with HR for months to get any of it back. You absolutely need to get the exact number of days and the payment policy in writing before you agree to anything.
