I tried using a circular saw freehand for a whole cabinet build
Last month I decided to skip the track saw on my kitchen cabinets and just freehanded everything with a 7-1/4 inch Makita. The cuts came out wobbly and I ended up spending 3 extra hours sanding edges to get doors to fit right. Anyone else ever ditch precision tools for speed and regret it big time?

So did you at least try clamping a straight edge as a guide or just completely raw dog it? Because I've done the same thing with a jigsaw on melamine and learned real quick that even a scrap piece of MDF clamped down makes a world of difference. Were your cuts actually following the line or was it more of a drift situation where the blade was walking on you?

Three cuts in on a 2x4 sheet and I feel like we're analyzing a crime scene. It's melamine dude, not a bank vault door. A little chip out on the edge is basically a rite of passage. If the shelf is gonna sit in a closet or behind some canned goods, who's gonna be down there with a magnifying glass?
