Rant: I thought scribing a baseboard around a stone fireplace was a waste of time
On a job in that big house on Elm Street, the client wanted the trim to fit tight against a really uneven rock face. I tried cutting it straight and caulking the gap, but it looked terrible. My buddy showed me how to use a compass with a pencil taped to it to trace the exact shape onto the board, and the fit was perfect. Anyone have a faster method for a tricky scribe like that?

That compass trick is solid. Had a similar thing with a brick wall last year. Ended up using a small block of wood as a spacer against the wall, ran a pencil along it to transfer the shape. Went way faster than trying to measure every little bump.

Why did I ever bother with a tape measure?
