Went to a job site in Austin and noticed something off about the framing
I was checking out a new build last month and the stud spacing was all over the place. Some were 16 inches apart, others closer to 20. Has anyone else run into framers who don't stick to the plan?

Always thought it was just lazy workmanship, but you make a REALLY good point about the load path thing. Guess I never gave the framers enough credit, sometimes the plans ARE weird. Definitely going to look closer at the nailing pattern next time.

Load bearing walls might have been the issue. In my experience, some framers get lazy with the layout if they think it's just a non-load bearing partition, but code still calls for proper spacing on shear walls. You might want to check the blueprints yourself, sometimes the architect calls for different spacing depending on the load path and the framer missed it. Take a good look at the nailing pattern too, that tells you a lot about what's actually load bearing vs. just a wall.
