Warning: Do not skip the moisture barrier on concrete slabs
I did a basement install last month over at a house in the Oakwood neighborhood. The concrete looked dry, the slab was 5 years old, I figured I could save time and skip the vapor barrier. Two weeks later the homeowner calls me and says carpet is bubbling up in three spots. Pulled it back and there was black mold forming underneath. Had to rip it all out and redo it with proper padding and barrier. Has anyone else dealt with a hidden moisture problem like this on older slabs?

Buddy of mine did the same thing in his garage and found water stains after one rainstorm.
