Shoutout to the fish vendor at Pike Place who saved our Friday service
We had a huge catering order for 150 people and our halibut delivery was three hours late. Our regular guy, Marco, drove over with a cooler of fresh king salmon he was saving for another restaurant and gave it to us at cost. We changed the special, told the story to the guests, and got more compliments than we have in months. Has anyone else had a supplier go way above and beyond like that?

Man, that's awesome! We had a similar thing happen with our produce guy last summer when our lettuce shipment got wrecked. He showed up with a van full of greens he pulled from a few other accounts and only charged us his regular price. It's those people who keep the wheels on. You remember that kind of help forever, and you make sure to send every bit of business you can their way after that.

Last summer our ice machine died on a Saturday during a heat wave and I spent two hours calling around trying to find someone who would sell us a couple bags. This old guy at a bait shop about 20 minutes away loaded up his truck with 12 bags and drove them out to us himself. He refused to take any extra money for the gas or his time. I still buy all my ice from him even though it's out of the way. That kind of thing just makes you want to throw your business at them forever.

How often do you see that kind of loyalty anymore? That vendor basically saved your whole event and didn't even try to make a huge profit off the emergency. It shows he really values your business long term, not just a quick sale. Those relationships are what make the whole industry work when things go wrong. You must have a great reputation with him for him to hand over another order like that. That story honestly makes me want to support small vendors even more.
