The day a full sheet pan of roasted carrots vanished from my station between the oven and the pass

I turned my back for maybe 45 seconds to grab a hotel pan, and when I spun around, the entire tray was just gone, leaving a warm, empty spot on the steel where I'd set it down, and the only person nearby was our new dishwasher who just shrugged and said, 'I saw nothing, chef.'

That whole "vanished into thin air" thing happens WAY more than people admit. My TV remote disappears from the coffee table at least twice a week, and I live alone. It's like there's a secret rule that small, important things just get a free pass to vanish for a while. Makes you wonder what else slips through the cracks when nobody's looking.
