I was dead wrong about rotary brushes on masonry flues

For like 5 years I swore they were just gonna tear up old clay tiles. Finally tried a poly whip on a job off Highway 17 last month and it cleaned a crown buildup in 20 minutes that woulda taken me an hour with rods. Any other old-school guys changed their mind on this?

DUDE YES! I had the exact same conversion moment. I fought tooth and nail against rotary brushes for years because I thought they'd just shatter the old clay liners. Finally used a poly whip on a job up near Felton where the creosote was basically concrete and I was blown away. Cleaned it in under 15 minutes with zero damage to the tiles. Now I swear by them for heavy buildup but I still keep the old rods handy for the real tight bends.

Man honestly I had the exact same doubt for years. I was all about the fiberglass rods and thought anything new was just a gimmick. Tbh what changed my mind was a buddy of mine who does mostly restaurant hoods and swore by those bigger air whips for duct cleaning. I watched him blast through a grease fire cleanup that woulda taken me all day and I finally caved. Now I use the poly whip on flues and I actually find it less tiring on my arms too. Ngl I still keep the old rods in the truck for tight corners but the rotary stuff has its place for sure.
