Wrote off top-down sweeping for years, then a job in Coeur d'Alene changed my mind
I always figured bottom-up with a good vacuum was fine for everything under 30 feet. Then last month a homeowner in Coeur d'Alene showed me the creosote ring her last guy missed, and when I dropped a camera down it was a solid quarter inch of glaze the whole way up. I switched to top-down on that house and pulled stuff loose I never would've reached from the firebox. Any of you run into flues where one direction just flat out performs better?
Thought the same thing for years until I hit a nasty one that way too. Bottom-up just smears the glaze around if it's thick enough, you gotta knock it loose from the top first. Now I run top-down on anything with heavy buildup and it's not even close.
