Serious question, why do so many shops skip the step of sealing end grain before applying stain?

I was staining a maple face frame last month and the ends soaked up way too much color, making the joints look blotchy. A quick coat of sanding sealer on the cross cuts before staining fixes it completely. How do you all handle this?

Shoutout to the old guy who told me to run the ladder pump at 80% on silt

I argued it was too slow for the job near Mobile, but he was right. It kept the line clear and saved me a four hour clog. Anyone else have a piece of advice that went against your gut but worked?

Saw a service panel go from fine to fried in under a month

I was back at a job in Oak Park to add a circuit and found the main panel's bus bars had started to corrode badly. The homeowner had a new humidifier installed right next to the panel in the basement about three weeks ago. The moisture level in that room must have spiked and done this. Has anyone else seen damage happen this fast from added humidity?
