I saw a kid point at a solar panel and ask what it was

I was walking past the old middle school last week and heard a little girl ask her dad about the big blue squares on the roof. He said, "Those make electricity from the sun." It hit me that ten years ago, I never saw those around here... now they're on a bunch of houses and that school. It's a small thing, but it made me feel like maybe the normal stuff is changing, bit by bit. Does anyone else notice these small signs where you live?

That line about the "big blue squares" got me. I saw the same thing at my local library. They put in a whole bank of panels in the parking lot last year, and now there are these little signs explaining how much power they make. It's not a huge deal, but seeing it on a public building just makes it feel... Official, you know? Like it's not just for rich people anymore. It's becoming part of the background, and that's the real change.

Remember when every new car looked the same? Now you see a quiet electric one at every stop light. It's the same with those panels, they just show up on grocery stores and gas stations. The normal background of our towns is slowly getting an upgrade, and we're just used to it. Makes you wonder what the next normal thing will be in ten years, doesn't it?

Maybe it's the quiet that gets me, like @wesley78 said about the cars. You don't hear the change, you just stop seeing the old normal after a while. It's kind of nice to notice it for a second.
