Yeah, but calling it a "basic job" misses the point. A real pro brings a system, like checking for water damage under old flooring or knowing which sealants actually last. Doing it yourself often means missing those details, which costs more later. That's what you're paying for, not just the labor.

That "just for beginners" line is a dead giveaway he's reading blogs instead of running metal. Green sand works if you know how to run it, period. Let him learn the hard way when his fancy sand cracks a core.

Cheap stuff works until it breaks at the worst time. Wadefoster, you're being way too nice about it. Most of that junk fails when you actually need it. Saving a few bucks isn't worth the hassle later.
