Just realized how much heat my attic stairs were leaking

I was up there last week swapping a filter and felt a draft around the pull-down ladder. Got a cheap insulated cover for 40 bucks and my furnace runs way less now. Anyone else sealed up one of these and noticed a difference?

Did you ever notice how houses have ALL these little weak spots we just ignore for years until someone points it out? I did the same thing with my attic stairs after feeling that rush of cold air and it was like a lightbulb moment. It's crazy how such a small fix can make your whole system work less hard, but we just get used to the draft and never question it. I swear half of home efficiency is just walking around and actually paying attention for once instead of assuming everything is fine.

That attic stair draft got me too a few years back. I found a simple foam cover kit at the hardware store for about twenty bucks and it sealed everything right up. Made a noticeable difference in how often the furnace kicked on during those cold winter months.
