My apartment complex recycling bin fiasco last Tuesday finally clicked

Last Tuesday I saw the recycling truck dump our entire bin into the regular trash compactor at my complex in Austin. I asked the driver why and he said the bin had too much food waste and plastic bags mixed in, so the whole load got rejected. It hit me that I've been throwing things in there without checking if they're actually clean or sorted right. Has anyone else found out their building's recycling is just going to a landfill anyway?

Wait the driver actually told you that straight up? That's wild. Like he just casually dropped the news that your whole building's recycling was getting tossed into the compactor that day. I would've stood there trying to process that for a solid minute. So basically you've been rinsing out jars and flattening boxes for nothing while it all went to the same place as your trash. That's gotta sting extra hard knowing someone literally watched it happen and said "yep, that's how it goes.
