Rant: My 'green' lawn was a total waste of water for years

I mean, I finally looked at my water bill from last summer and saw I used over 10,000 gallons just on the grass. It hit me that I was basically pouring a resource down the drain for a boring patch of green. Has anyone else ripped theirs out for something better?

Oh man, do I ever feel this. I did the same math a couple years back and it made me sick. We tore out the whole front yard and put in native plants and gravel paths. The water bill dropped like a rock, and now we have bees and butterflies instead of just grass to mow.
