Pro tip: I used to think coolant concentration didn't matter much until my insert chipped on the 15th part last Tuesday
The old timer at the shop next door told me to check my refractometer readings daily and after 3 months of doing it, my tool life literally doubled - has anyone else seen that big of a difference from just coolant mix?

Whoa, for real? I actually read a thing from some machining blog that said coolant concentration swings can mess with the lubricity way more than people realize. They talked about how too much water makes the coolant not stick to the tool right, which causes that micro-welding and chipping. Sounds like your old timer buddy knew his stuff, 3 months of checking is some solid data.

Did you ever test the thermal conductivity differences between the two mixes?
