Shoutout to the old timer who told me to use a 0.5mm stepover

I was finishing a big aluminum plate for a customer in Tacoma and had to choose between a 1mm stepover to save time or a 0.5mm for a better finish. I went with the 0.5mm on the advice of a guy at the tool crib, and the surface came out like glass, no hand sanding needed. Anyone have a go-to stepover for 6061 when you need a mirror finish?

Wait, you were gonna use a 1mm stepover on a finish pass? That's wild. I would've expected chatter city and visible lines all over that plate. The 0.5mm was the only real choice.

Wendy_carr, a 0.75mm stepover with a fresh endmill would've saved an hour and still looked great.
