Shoutout to the person who told me my code looked like alphabet soup

They said 'bro, name your variables something real, not just a, b, c' after seeing my first Python script. Has anyone else gotten roasted into writing better code?

Honestly, sometimes a, b, c is just fine. If you're just testing a quick idea or writing a tiny script you'll throw away, who cares? Over-naming every single little thing can slow you down for no real gain. That person sounds like they're just being picky for no good reason. Not every piece of code needs to be a perfect museum piece ready for other people to read forever.

My friend Jake spent two hours naming variables in a one-off data cleaner. He called it temp_project_final_v2. A week later he deleted the whole folder. He laughed about it later, said he could have just used x and y and been done in twenty minutes. The overthinking cost him an evening for nothing. Some code is just meant to be a quick sketch.

My last one-off script used single letters for everything. It ran once and I never opened it again.
