TIL my first 'Hello World' program was a bigger deal than I thought

Found an old article from 2021. It said over 26 million people wrote their first line of code that year. That's a huge number. I just figured it was a few folks in online classes. Makes my little Python script feel part of something. Anyone else get a kick out of stats like that?

Used to see it as just a number too. But now I like the idea of all those people at least trying the thing. Even if most quit, the door was open for a minute.

Honestly, that stat just feels empty to me. A line of code doesn't mean anything if most of those people never wrote a second one. It's like counting everyone who ever picked up a hammer as a carpenter. The real number that matters is how many stuck with it. My guess is that huge crowd got real thin, real fast. Feels more like a marketing number than something to feel good about.

But didn't they track that and find a decent chunk kept going?
