TIL my first line of code still runs, 9 years later
I found my old USB stick from a class at Joliet Junior College and opened the little guessing game I wrote in Python back in 2016. It only has 22 lines and it has no functions, but when I ran it, it worked on the first try. My whole intro class just printed text to the screen the first week, and we thought we were hackers. What was the first thing you all ever got to actually run without errors?
That USB stick surviving 9 years is honestly impressive, mine would've been lost or fried by now. My first real win was a little calculator in QBasic on a school computer, and I was so proud I showed everyone in the lab. It only added and subtracted, nothing fancy, but it ran clean and I felt like I'd built a spaceship. I still remember the exact error I kept getting before that too, a missing THEN on an IF line. Nine years is a long time and your 22 lines still working says a lot.
