Had to pick between a new grinder or a new espresso machine this winter

My old espresso machine's pump was getting weak and my grinder's burrs were shot. I had about $800 saved up, so I could only fix one thing properly. I went with the grinder, a new set of steel burrs, thinking better grounds would help the old machine limp along. It's been three months and the shots are more even, but the machine still takes forever to heat up and the pressure is all over the place. Kind of wish I'd just bought a simpler machine instead. Anyone else had to make a call like that and regretted it later?

Ever try to fix a car with just a new set of tires? My kitchen is full of those half-solutions.

Oh man, that hits home. I used to be the queen of quick fixes, just slapping a band-aid on stuff. But last year my sink started leaking bad, and I kept just tightening the pipe. Finally the whole thing gave out and flooded the cabinet. Cost way more to fix the water damage than just replacing the worn out part would have. I mean, I get it now. That half fix just lets you ignore the real problem until it gets worse.
