Hit 400 cups poured from my home setup this year and the number caught me off guard
I started logging every cup I made at home back in January, mostly just a note on my phone with the bean and the method, and last night the count hit 400. That works out to more than one a day, which shocked me since I always figured I was a two or three cup guy who mostly drank whatever the office pot had. The weird part is I can look back and see my pour over cups went way up while the drip machine ones dropped off after March. It made me realize I actually drink less coffee now but I enjoy it a lot more. How many cups are you all making at home these days, and do you keep track or just wing it?
The part about drinking less but enjoying it more really hits home for me. I went through the same thing a couple years back when I ditched the drip machine and went all in on pour over. Turns out when each cup takes a few minutes of paying attention, you stop chugging them mindlessly and actually sit with the one you made. Your numbers tell the story better than any post about coffee ever could, the drip cups fell off and the pour overs climbed because you were getting something out of it. My guess is most people would find the same thing if they actually wrote it down. The count is the easy part, but seeing what changed is the real payoff.
