Rant: Dropped $150 on a fancy espresso machine that broke within 3 months

The pressure gauge went haywire and the steam wand started sputtering milk everywhere after just 12 uses, so has anyone else had better luck with the cheaper manual lever machines at half that price?

Have you looked into the manual lever machines at all? I saw a post from some coffee nerds who swear by them for durability since there's less to go wrong. A friend of mine picked up a used La Pavoni years back and it's still going strong with just basic cleaning. I think the fancy electronic ones are built to break faster, honestly. The simpler designs might not have the bells and whistles but they usually last way longer in my experience.

Yeah, "built to break faster" is exactly right. I had the same thing happen with a $200 machine that died after four months. My little $60 manual lever one has been going for over two years now with zero issues. Way less fancy but way less stress.
