Rant: three days because of a worn out burr set

I spent THREE DAYS trying to dial in my pour over and the coffee kept tasting like burnt rubber. Turns out my Baratza burrs were shot after 6 years of heavy use. Has anyone else gone crazy chasing a problem that was just worn out equipment?

Doesn't it always seem like you waste the most time on the thing you least suspect? I had a similar thing with my car once, chasing a weird vibration for weeks before realizing a wheel weight had just fallen off. You start tweaking grind size and water temp and pour technique, but the real culprit is just a worn down part you stopped thinking about. It's like your brain gets so used to the old equipment being fine that it ignores the obvious.

Totally been there dude, with my old espresso machine actually. I spent like a month trying different beans and messing with my grinder setting, pulling my hair out over sour shots. Turns out the gasket on my group head was just old and letting pressure leak. Replaced that $8 part and it was like a whole new machine, felt like such an idiot for not checking it sooner.
