Debate with my brother over reading digital comics at a diner last week
My brother said reading comics on a tablet is just as good as holding a physical issue, and that floppies are basically dead weight. I argued that the smell of the paper and the act of flipping pages is part of the experience for me. What side do you fall on for collecting comics in 2024?

Your brother is wrong and I'll die on that hill. Bending back a floppy and catching that fresh ink smell is half the reason I still buy them. Tablets are fine for reading on the toilet but they don't give you that nostalgic kick. Physical issues have soul, digital files are just ghosts.

anthony426 makes a good point about the tactile stuff, but the real issue is what happens when your phone or tablet dies. You're stuck with nothing to do. A paperback can't run out of battery. Plus, you never have to worry about a format becoming obsolete. Those ebooks you bought in 2010 might not work on the next device, but your 1979 copy of Stephen King still reads fine. Digital files are ghosts that can disappear when the company quiets down. Physical copies are just there, always.
