My friend told me to skip the big events and just read the runs I like
For years, I tried to keep up with every big Marvel and DC crossover, like 'Secret Wars' or 'Dark Nights: Metal'. My friend Mark, who has been collecting since the 80s, told me last summer to stop. He said, 'Just pick a writer you like and follow their work, ignore the rest.' I was worried I would miss key story points, but I took his advice and focused on the current 'Daredevil' run. Not only did I save about $25 a month, but I actually enjoyed reading comics more because I wasn't confused by tie-ins I did not care about. It made me realize I was buying out of habit, not real interest. Now my pull list is much smaller and I look forward to each issue. Has anyone else found that stepping back from the big events made them a happier fan?

What did you do with all the crossover issues you already owned? I had a long box of just 'Civil War' tie-ins I never liked, ended up selling the whole lot for store credit to buy back issues I actually wanted.

Honestly, I love the chaos of a mixed-up crossover box!

Yeah, that's the smart move... I never had the heart to sell mine off like you did, @jesse_west. They just sit there in a box, a total mess of tie-ins from like three different events all mixed together. Every time I try to sort them I just give up... it feels like homework. Maybe I'll just donate the whole box someday.
