Rant: the guy at my local shop in Columbus says digital comics killed the back issue bin and I think he's wrong
I stopped by a comic shop on High Street in Columbus two weeks ago and the owner was telling everyone that digital killed back issue sales. But the bin was packed with folks digging through $2 books while I was there, and I saw a kid buy 14 old X-Men issues. He also said nobody wants floppies anymore, yet his pull list signup sheet was full. Maybe the problem isn't digital, maybe it's that he prices his key issues at full market and never runs any deals. Anyone else notice shops blaming digital when the real issue is pricing?
Oh man, I've seen this exact thing at shops all over and it's almost always a pricing problem! The shop near me that actually moves back issues does $1 bins, buy 5 get 1 free, and marks keys at like 70% of market, and there's always a crowd digging. Meanwhile the guy two towns over who prices everything at full GPA and never discounts sits alone blaming digital, which makes zero sense since digital folks were never gonna buy that beat-up copy of X-Men 129 anyway.
