That time I rolled my eyes at a guy collecting variant covers... then I bought one

I was at a comic shop in Portland last month, and there was this dude arguing with the owner about a variant cover for some Batman issue I'd never even heard of. I'm standing there thinking, 'It's just a different picture on the front, who cares?' But then the owner pulled out this foil cover for a book I actually liked, Spider-Verse #5 or something. It had this shiny red and black design that looked way cooler in person than online. I ended up buying it for $12 just to see what the fuss was about. Now I'm kinda paranoid I'll start wanting more of them... has anyone else gotten pulled into that trap by just one cover?

That "arguing with the owner about a variant cover" thing really got my attention. I was at a flea market last summer and saw two guys have this whole debate over a Deadpool variant that had a typo on the spine. I thought it was the dumbest thing ever until I found a copy of Immortal Hulk with a glow-in-the-dark cover at a garage sale for two bucks. Now I have three glow-in-the-dark covers sitting on my shelf and I keep checking ebay for more.

Three glow in the dark covers in one summer is pretty solid luck honestly. I got my first one by accident and now I check every dusty bin at thrift stores for them too.
