Found a way to keep my comms cable from getting caught on deck gear

I was working a salvage job in Mobile Bay last month and kept getting my comms cable hooked on the winch drum. It was slowing me down a lot. I tried wrapping about six inches of the cable near my helmet in that bright orange heat shrink tubing you use for electrical work. It made the cable way more stiff right at that spot, so it doesn't flop around and snag as easy. I've done three dives with it now and haven't had a single hang-up. Has anyone else tried something like this, or have a better fix for cable management topside?

Heard a buddy used old bike inner tube strips.

That's a solid hack. Tried it last summer when a strap on my kayak rack snapped. Cut a piece of old tube, wrapped it tight, and it held for months. The rubber is super strong and grips like crazy. Just make sure the surface is clean before you tie it on.
