I finally listened to my dive buddy about the harbor current in Tacoma
He said to wait an extra 20 minutes after the tide chart said slack, and sure enough, the water was dead calm when we went in. Anyone else have a local spot where the charts are just plain wrong?

Sounds like your buddy just understands local conditions better than a chart.

Totally agree with that. Charts don't show how the wind really swirls around a certain point or where the weird current sets in on an outgoing tide. My uncle could put his hand in the water and tell you what the bottom was like, stuff you'd never get from a depth reading. That kind of local knowledge is worth more than any fancy tech.
