Spent 10 minutes de-icing a valve cover in 38 degree water off Nova Scotia last week
Difference between trying to crack it with a hammer vs pouring hot water on it from a thermos was night and day, has anyone else got a better trick for frozen gear in cold dives?

Buddy of mine used to keep a can of WD-40 in his bag for frozen valves. Said it worked better than hot water because it displaced the moisture and didn't just refreeze later. One time his thermos leaked all over his drysuit and he spent the whole dive shivering. Switched to the spray can trick after that and never looked back. He still talks about how the hot water trick is a temporary fix at best.

Man that thermos leaking all over his drysuit is nightmare fuel. I'd be fighting to get out of the water before I even hit the bottom, shivering just thinking about it. Good tip on the WD-40 though, never woulda thought of that for a dive valve.
