Swapped out my old thermal paste after 3 years and it was night and day

I finally got around to repasting my home desktop last weekend (a Ryzen 5 3600 I built back in 2020) and I honestly didn't expect much. But my idle temps dropped from like 52C down to 38C just from switching to some Arctic MX-6 I had sitting around. Under load during gaming it's about 10 degrees cooler now, which is way more than I thought I'd see. The old paste was all dried out and crumbly, almost like dust in some spots. Has anyone else put off repasting for way too long and then regretted not doing it sooner?

Respectfully disagree, my 3600 barely dropped 5 degrees after repasting lol.

Man my 3900X dropped like 2 degrees and I was so proud of myself for not making a mess lol. Paste jobs are just a gamble half the time, feels like.
