Did the math on my gas costs and it was 900 bucks I never saw coming

Tracked every fill up for my truck and wheelbarrow gas over 6 months and the total came out to $912, way more than I guessed. Guess I kept telling myself it was like 80 bucks a month. Anyone else actually add up their fuel for a season and get shocked, or is it just me?

Fuel is just expensive and always has been" is exactly the kind of thinking that keeps people broke. When you assume it's always been bad, you stop looking for ways to cut it, and that's how $150 a month becomes normal in your head. Tell that to someone who actually wrote down every fill up and found out they were bleeding money they did not have to lose. @averyfox saying not to lose sleep over it is easy when it's not your $912, and yeah maybe you are not strapped, but a surprise that big means your guess was off by almost double. That gap is the whole point. The number itself matters less than the fact that you had no idea it was coming, and next season it could be your rent money or your truck repair fund. Track it, feel bad about it for a day, then do something about it.

$912 over 6 months works out to about $150 a month, which for a truck plus gas for other stuff is honestly not crazy. Fuel is just expensive and always has been, so tracking it closely mostly just tells you what you already knew. I would not lose sleep over it unless you are actually strapped for cash.
