Had a total blowout on a basement slab in Cincinnati last month

We were finishing a 20x30 foot slab and the power screed died right in the middle of the pour. The concrete was setting FAST in that heat. I had to grab two guys and we finished the whole thing by hand with magnesium floats, working like crazy. My back was killing me for days after. Anyone ever had a major tool fail at the worst possible time? What's your backup plan?

Ever tried a backup screed bar? I get what @noah248 is saying, but hand finishing a slab that size with mag floats is a real workout.
