Tried using a heavier broom finish on a driveway in Phoenix last week, total disaster
I figured a deeper texture would hide the lines better on this Class 5 mix we used, but the sun dried the surface faster than I could work it. Ended up with a rough, uneven look that took an extra day of grinding to fix. Has anyone else had air temperature wreck their timing on a broom finish like this?

yeah i actually watched a crew out here near Houston try the same thing last month with a deep broom on a hot day. the slab was setting up way faster than they expected and they got this torn up look where the broom pulled chunks out instead of leaving nice lines. i read somewhere that a heavy broom finish is basically asking for trouble when the air temp is above 95 and the concrete starts setting in like 20 minutes. the trick i heard is to either wet the surface a bit before brooming or switch to a softer broom and work in smaller sections. sounds like Phoenix sun just cooked that mix way too fast for what you were trying to do.

You ever find out if wetting the surface beforehand messes with the curing long term, or does it usually dry out fine?
