Warning: My laptop blue screened mid-critical fix and I almost lost a client

I was remoted into a server at 2 AM trying to patch a security hole for a small biz client here in Austin. Everything was going smooth until my Dell XPS just froze and gave me that sad blue screen - totally out of nowhere. No updates pending, no weird sounds, just dead. I had to drive 20 minutes to an all-night coffee shop with my backup tablet just to finish the job via their guest WiFi. Has anyone else had a machine fail at the worst possible moment like that?

A Dell XPS at 2 AM during a critical patch? That is like the universe picking the absolute worst time to test your patience, man. I swear, machines can smell when you are on a deadline, mine always waits until I am five minutes away from a backup to just give up completely. Sounds like you handled it better than I would have, coffee shop guest WiFi is dangerously risky but sometimes you just have to roll the dice.

Read something about laptops getting worse with heat. Bad timing though.
