That stat about client churn rates on Upwork finally got me

Wait, is the quit rate actually that high these days? I feel like @rayy83 might be mixing up freelancers with people who work at agencies or in-house because the numbers are pretty different. The stats I've seen show more like 40-50% of new freelance designers burn out within the first year, but that's usually from poor planning and not having a real portfolio to land good clients. Someone with a solid book of work and a few long term contracts can stick around a lot longer if they know how to manage their pipeline.

That time I swapped sugar for honey in banana bread and wound up with soup

Woah hold up, that's not totally right actually. Honey is sweeter by weight but a lot of recipes use honey because it's also more liquid than sugar so you gotta account for that moisture difference too. If you just cut it to 1/2 cup or whatever you might end up with a drier result that doesn't bind right. I've messed up cookies before doing that exact thing.

Question about color calibration taking way longer than expected

My first real battle with color accuracy was back when I had a Dell U2412M monitor. I must have spent 3 hours one Saturday tweaking the RGB sliders in the NVIDIA control panel, convinced I was getting closer to neutral grays. Turned out the monitor itself had a factory reset option I hadn't touched, which basically undid all my manual tweaks. Your mileage may vary, but I think those gamma settings are the sneakiest culprits. They're hidden in so many different places now. I still keep a little note on my desk for the order I check things in now.

My buddy swore by that AI resume builder and I thought he was crazy

Figured the thing would make my resume sound like a robot wrote it, but turns out the robot wrote it better than I ever could. I told my wife the AI probably did a cleaner job because it didn't have my habit of writing run-on sentences about my favorite part of the job being the air conditioning in the truck. She laughed, but then she had me redo her resume too. Sometimes you just gotta admit when the bots do it better, even if it hurts.

Appreciation post: Greg from the Chicago meetup told me to stop chasing vanity metrics back in 2018 and I wish I listened sooner

Take that with a grain of salt, but sometimes you need those vanity metrics to keep the momentum going. If I had ignored all my early "looks cool but meaningless" numbers, I probably would have quit way before anything started working.
