Blew $200 on a load cell I didn't even need

I was sure my crane's overload sensor was acting up on a job in downtown Nashville last month. Spent $200 on a replacement load cell before realising it was just a loose ground wire on the control box. Anyone else ever chase a ghost issue and throw money at the wrong part?

Been there man. After chasing my tail for two days on a similar issue I finally just started wiggling wires and found a corroded connector. Now I always check the simple stuff first before buying parts, saves me a headache and my wallet.

My buddy Mike was working on his old F150 last summer, went through three different parts before he figured out it was just a loose ground strap. Spent like 200 bucks on a new alternator, battery, and starter he didn't need. Finally called me over and I just grabbed the wires and gave em a tug. Battery ground bolt was barely finger tight. We tightened it up and the truck fired right up. He still brings it up every time we work on something together, says I saved him from buying a whole new engine next.
