I was dead wrong about epoxy floor coatings...

Always thought epoxy garage floors were just an overhyped fad for people with too much money. Then my buddy convinced me to do his 2 car garage with him last spring, 3 days of grinding and prepping and applying. The results were legit incredible after we waited the full 72 hours to cure. A year later his floor looks brand new and I finally did mine this August after seeing how his held up through a Minnesota winter. Has anyone else tried the cheaper Rust-Oleum kits? I went with a pro grade system but wondering if the savings is worth it for a lighter use garage.

Went to an old job site last week and saw my carpet from 12 years ago still holding up

I was back in a church basement I did back in 2012, helping a buddy move a piano. The commercial grade carpet I laid down was still there, no ripples or loose seams, just a bit faded near the doors. The caretaker said they've only vacuumed and spot cleaned it once a year. Made me think about how we rushed through jobs back then versus now, where every seam gets extra care. Has anyone else stumbled on an old install and felt surprised by how it aged?

Blew a panel swap last Tuesday because I missed a bonding jumper

I was swapping out a 40-space panel in a basement remodel down on 18th street. Got everything landed, turned power back on, and the GFCI breakers would not hold. Took me 40 minutes of checking neutrals before I realized the bonding screw was still in the new panel. Never had that happen before because I always check, but I got in a hurry. Anyone else have a stupid miss like that cost them time?

Hit 400 degrees on my air fryer for the first time last night

I tossed in frozen chicken wings at 400 for 25 minutes and they came out crispier than any restaurant wings I've had, has anyone else tried pushing their fryer that hot?

Just found out my cutterhead is turning 15% slower than spec...

I was checking the manual on a new job up near Lake Champlain and noticed the dredge pump RPM is way off from what the manufacturer says it should be for that material... Has anyone else found a big discrepancy like that in their logs?

My washing machine died last Thursday and I fixed it myself with a $12 belt

Pulled the thing apart in my basement in Buffalo and swapped the drive belt in an hour after watching a YouTube video. Has anyone else tackled a major appliance repair instead of just calling a repair guy?

Stopped trusting those 'average price per square foot' numbers after looking at houses in Mississauga

I was comparing two bungalows on the same street. One had a finished basement with a bathroom and the other was just a raw concrete hole. But the online listings were showing almost the same price per square foot. That number completely hides what you're actually getting for your money. My realtor finally told me last month that most sites just divide the list price by the total floor area including basements, which is basically useless. Has anyone else noticed how misleading those automated estimates are?

I thought those cheap plastic floor scrapers were junk, but they saved a job for me yesterday

Had to pull up old vinyl sheet in a kitchen and the adhesive was a nightmare. My usual metal scraper was just gouging the subfloor. Grabbed a $5 plastic one from my truck as a last try. It flexed just enough to get under the glue without digging in, and I cleared the whole 12x14 area in like two hours. Anyone else find a use for a tool you wrote off at first?

My neighbor's book club just had a huge fight about the ending of 'Klara and the Sun'

I was in my backyard yesterday and could hear them yelling about whether the ending was hopeful or just sad. One person said 'It's about love surviving any form,' but another called it a 'cop-out' that left her mad for a week. Has your club ever split that hard on a book's meaning?

Got chewed out for not checking my collet runout before a big job

My lead said 'you're trusting a $0.02 part to hold a $500 tool' after a finish issue. Now I clock every holder first. Anyone have a favorite indicator for this?
