My 3 page ghost story turned into 11 pages of a guy just walking to a lighthouse
I sat down on a Tuesday night to write a short ghost story for my sister's birthday, figured 3 pages tops, and by 1am I had 11 pages of a fisherman walking very slowly toward a lighthouse. Nothing spooky had happened yet. He stopped twice to eat a sandwich. I described the sandwich for half a page, including the brand of mustard. My original plan had a ghost in it somewhere around page 2, but the guy kept walking and I kept typing. Now I have this rambling draft I actually kind of love and zero idea how to cut it down. Do I kill the sandwich scene or just let the ghost show up on page 14?
