Wrote my whole first chapter as a text conversation with myself at 2am and it works
Every time I sat down to write the opening of this story it came out stiff, so on a whim I typed it as messages between two people who hate each other and suddenly the voices were right. Is it normal to trick yourself like this just to get words on the page, or am I doing something backwards?
The whole "am I doing something backwards" part is what gets me. Backwards from what, exactly? There's no official rulebook for how you get words on the page. If typing fake texts between two people who can't stand each other got your characters talking, that's just you finding a door that opens. People do way weirder stuff to trick their brain into working. Some write drunk, some write at 5am, some outline for a month. Yours happens to look like a phone screen at 2am. So what.
