Paid $45 for a 'plot twist generator' ebook, got 80 pages of obvious advice
Saw this indie author on TikTok hyping their system for crafting twists that 'break the internet.' I was stuck on a mystery novel outline, so I bit the bullet. The ebook had stuff like 'make the villain someone the hero trusts' and 'use red herrings.' No joke, it listed those exact examples. I could have gotten better tips from a free blog post from 2012. Has anyone else shelled out for writing tools that were just common sense with better formatting?

Bought a $30 course on pacing last year and honestly the best tip was just 'cut your chapters by ten percent.' The rest was screenshots of the authors own drafts with arrows pointing at stuff. I learned more from one critique group session than that whole thing, so now I just ask other writers directly when Im stuck.

Wait did you actually try cutting chapters by ten percent before or after you wrote the whole thing? Cause Ive seen that advice kill scenes that needed room to breathe, and Im wondering if it works better as a first draft rule or a final pass trick.
