Serious question, has anyone else had a story idea just ruin a whole week?

Last Tuesday I got this prompt about a guy who finds his own grave, and I couldn't stop thinking about it, which totally killed my actual work on my novel. I spent three full days just scribbling notes for this new idea instead of writing my planned chapter. How do you guys handle a prompt that completely hijacks your brain?

My buddy got so stuck on a time loop idea he forgot to pay his electric bill... spent a whole weekend in the dark just outlining it.

Respect the dedication, honestly. Getting that lost in an idea is kind of amazing. The best stuff comes from that weird focus.
