My bank flagged my account for fraud because I used a VPN on vacation in Miami

I was in Miami for a week and kept my VPN on for security, but my bank locked my card thinking it was a stolen account. After three calls, the fraud agent finally told me to add a travel notice AND whitelist their app in the VPN settings. Has anyone else had to tweak their VPN setup just to keep their own bank happy?

Yeah, that's a huge pain. So the bank basically said their own app needs to bypass your VPN? Doesn't that defeat the whole point of having it on for security in the first place? What if you're on some sketchy hotel wifi, you're just supposed to turn the protection off for them? Feels like they're putting their own convenience over customer safety.

Wait, they actually told you to turn your VPN off? That's wild. My bank app just throws a fit and makes me verify with a text code if it doesn't like my connection. Making you disable it completely on public wifi is asking for trouble.

It's a weird security trade-off. They want you to be safe from fraud, but then ask you to drop your guard for their app.
