I finally let myself check my phone right after waking up
Doing that today got my brain going faster than coffee ever does.

My buddy Dave used to do that, check his phone first thing. He said seeing a work email from his boss at 6 AM would make his heart pound before his feet even hit the floor. One morning he saw a news alert and three text messages, and his brain was just spinning with problems before he even brushed his teeth. He said it felt like starting every day already five steps behind.

Oh totally, I did that this morning and instantly saw my group chat blowing up overnight. Someone was mad about plans changing, another friend sent like ten texts about their work drama, and my brain just latched onto all of it. I was lying there solving other people's problems before I even remembered what day it was. It completely wrecked that quiet minute of just waking up.

That "quiet minute of just waking up" is so key. I started leaving my phone in another room overnight, kind of like what @matthewjenkins said about his friend, and it really helped me start the day for myself.
