I thought those fuel additive test strips were a gimmick until my boss made us use them
We had a truck with a rough idle that kept coming back, and after the third injector clean, my boss in Omaha bought a pack of those diesel fuel test strips. I rolled my eyes, but we dipped one in the tank and it showed high water content right away. Turns out the station's underground tank had a leak, and water was getting in. We drained the whole system and the problem was fixed for good. Has anyone else found a simple tool that actually solved a tricky issue?

My uncle runs a shop in Lincoln and he swears those strips give false positives all the time. He wasted a whole day last month draining a tank because a strip said there was water, but the fuel sample he sent to the lab came back totally clean. He thinks they're too sensitive to other stuff in the fuel and just cause panic.

Yeah, @the_lisa, I just use a clear jar now to check for water.
