My old boss in Phoenix swore by using a 4-foot level for every single post, even on long runs.

My uncle in Tucson taught me the string line trick for anything over 50 feet.

My new client in Boise pointed out their latency graphs spiked every day at 2 PM, which finally made me realize I'd been ignoring scheduled backup traffic on their primary circuit for months.

Actually the good monitoring tools let you tag those known events as "expected" so they don't even hit the main alert feed... they go to a separate log. That way your main dashboard stays clean for the real surprises. It's not about making noise, it's about teaching the system what to ignore so you can focus.

A customer called my trigger jobs 'sloppy' and it stung, but he was right

Used to just trust my eyes. Now I check every job with a feeler gauge after seeing @raycraig's post about his bent one.

I finally tested cold butter vs room temp butter for pie crust

That "difference was huge" thing is a solid rule for more than just baking. I see it with people rushing to open a beer bottle versus taking a second to find the actual opener, you just get a worse result. Chilling your fats seems like the kitchen version of that, no real workaround for the right way.

I thought a 3D model was overkill for a simple bracket, but it saved a whole day

My brother does woodworking and had a similar fight with a cabinet plan. He swore 2D sketches were fine until the whole drawer assembly was off by half an inch. Now he makes a quick digital mockup every time, even for a basic shelf. It just kills those little mistakes.
