Saw a gallery show last Friday in Chicago that used only $50 tablets and it looked better than my $2k setup
I went to this small digital art showcase last Friday at a place in Chicago called the Co-Prosperity Sphere. One artist had a piece running on a cheap $50 Amazon tablet and honestly the colors and flow looked better than stuff I see from people with full Cintiq rigs. I have about $2,000 in my own setup and I felt a little dumb standing there. So now I keep going back and forth. One side says tools do not matter, it is all about the idea and the skill. The other side says better gear lets you work faster and do things the cheap stuff just cannot handle. I mean the artist told me they spent 3 months on that piece and only 2 days on the tablet part. That kind of proves the gear is not the main thing but it also proves you need time either way. Where do you all land on this, does spending more on a tablet or display actually show up in the work or is it mostly a comfort thing?
Went through the same thing last year at a pop up show in Austin. Dude had his whole piece running off a beat up Galaxy Tab and it blew me away. Made me realize my fancy screen never once made a brush stroke for me.
