DAE check their client's GA4 setup after a migration? Found 8 months of traffic going to a dead URL
Client moved their site to a new host back in March and nobody set up redirects, so Google was still crawling old pages and reporting traffic that never touched the new site. I only caught it because their bounce rate looked weird at 94% for pages that supposedly got 4,000 visits a month. Has anyone else run into this after a host switch, and how are you catching it before the client does?
Whys this keep coming up as some big emergency? Bounce at 94% on dead pages just means the old URLs are still getting hit and GA counts it. The client's real site is fine, they just have extra junk rows in one report. Unless they're paying for ads pointed at those old links or making calls off those numbers, it's cleanup, not a fire. Takes an hour to pull a redirect map and move on. Feels like people want this to be a disaster story more than it actually is.
